So how do you get items like tbow and scythe to get 75% yes votes from a community constantly concerned about powercreep? You intentionally "hide" how powerful they really are.

Their objective is clear: They want the equipment they poll to pass. So you can ask if having higher reqs would have any practical effect at all. Items like the tbow and scythe could very well be t80 items, but frankly what's the point since they cost 1b and 4b respectively? How many of us has 75-80 stats and owns a tbow and/or scythe? For such pricey items, money would still be a tougher req to meet than even level 99s would. Sea trident is worth 80k and 380gp per cast, TotS is 5m with 600gp per cast, and finally Sanguinesti staff goes for 300m with 750gp per cast. So instead of having t80 items, we have a secondary requirement instead to distinguish items with equal level reqs: Money. Just asking: If you make the blowpipe a t80 item, how would that make it more balanced? Its relative power would still be the same. This is exactly what chaotics did very powerful items though with stats that could be justifiable as they were t80 and not t75. Those items could arguably be too strong for the game, but more or less balanced if you just look at their requirements. You could try polling any of the 45 items as t80 equipment, nothing else changed, and see how many would pass.Ī valid point which concerns many players are as soon as we start releasing t80 items to the game, the focus on limiting powercreep might be slacking a bit since t80 open up for better gear by default. Therefore we're left with a perception that IF we get t80 items to OSRS, they would be just as game-breaking. Items so "OP" that they were a part of the reason why EoC happened. Tier 80 reminds us of chaotics, nex armour, zaryte bow and everything that followed (BoB, curses, overloads etc.). How many times can we keep adding t75 upgrades to existing t75 items, then adding upgrades to those upgrades again, before it starts to become one big parody? Sanguinesti staff is even a new unique item, 4 max hits over sea trident at every level + decent healing ability, but still has a 75 magic req. TotS is a direct upgrade, 3 max hits higher at every magic level, but still has a 75 magic req. Simple question: Why shouldn't stronger gear have higher wielding requirements, like everything else in this game? Take Trident of the Seas for instance. You can now wield the Dragonfire shield, Serpentine helm, Twisted buckler. "Congratulations, you just advanced a Defence level. And after 5 years of gradually pushing out tier 75 items but no tier 80 items (dbone neck is an exeption as it only requires prayer and it's quite useless as well), this tier is already crowded with items.

But no matter how strong new items are, not matter how clear of an upgrade they are over what we currently have, we seemingly still have to obey this arbitrary requirement roof that is level 75. It might be slower and "healthier" than what it was in RS2, but as long as we demand new big updates, new BiS items eventually have to come along too. Magic weapons: (Toxic) Staff of the Dead, Staff of Light, Trident of the Seas/Swamp, Sanguinesti staff, Kodai wand, Slayer’s staff (e).Īrmour/other: Justiciar faceguard/chestguard/legguards, Ancestral hat/robe top/robe bottom, Serpentine helm, Primordial/Pegasian/Eternal/Guardian boots, Dragonfire shield, Dragonfire ward, Ancient Wyvern shield, Arcane/Elysian/Spectral spirit shield, Twisted buckler, Zenyte jewellery (Torture, Anguish, Suffering, Tormented), God capes (i).Įvidently we do have powercreep in this game.
